What It Is

Ultrasound-guided botulinum toxin injections relax specific overactive muscles after stroke, in multiple sclerosis, cerebral palsy, or dystonia — reducing stiffness and pain, easing hygiene and dressing, and unlocking rehabilitation gains.

What to Expect

20–30 minute clinic session, muscles selected by examination
Ultrasound localisation of each target muscle
Effect builds over 1–2 weeks, peaks around 6 weeks
Repeated every 12 weeks alongside physiotherapy
Goals set with patient and family before each cycle

Who It Is For

Post-stroke arm/leg spasticity, MS-related spasticity, cerebral palsy (from age 6+), cervical dystonia, and painful muscle overactivity limiting daily care.

Aftercare

Continue physiotherapy — Botox opens a window; rehabilitation walks through it. Mild injection-site soreness may last a day or two.

Frequently Asked Questions

Dosing targets only the overactive muscles; the goal is a better balance of tone, not weakness. Ultrasound guidance keeps neighbouring muscles safe.
