What It Is

NCS measures the speed and strength of electrical signals along your nerves; EMG records the electrical activity inside muscles with a fine needle electrode. Together they localise nerve and muscle disease with a precision imaging cannot match.

What to Expect

30–60 minutes depending on the question being answered
Small electrical pulses — surprising, not painful
The EMG needle is fine; no injections and no electricity through it
No sedation; you drive home and resume normal activity
Results explained by Dr. Ebied in the same visit

Who It Is For

Anyone with numbness, tingling, burning, weakness, suspected carpal tunnel, radiculopathy from neck/back disease, neuropathy, myasthenia, or muscle disease.

Aftercare

None needed — minor muscle soreness at needle sites settles within hours. Inform the team beforehand if you take blood thinners or have a pacemaker.

Frequently Asked Questions

MRI shows structure; NCS/EMG shows function. Many neuropathies and early nerve injuries are invisible on MRI but obvious electrically.
